Since the end of the Civil War, Gettysburg National Cemetery has expanded over time to accommodate veterans from subsequent conflicts. Following World War II, over 500 servicemen were interred here, many repatriated from overseas at the request of their families. Today, more than 6,000 American service men and women are interred here along with their families.
